Updated: Nov 10, 2021

NORRISTOWN, PA. (November 10, 2021)—Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele and Norristown Acting Police Chief Todd Dillon announce an investigation of a shooting that took place this morning. At 9:48 AM the Norristown Police Department was dispatched to a reported shooting at E Airy Street and DeKalb Street in Norristown.

First responding officers found the victim, Anthony Marano, suffering from a bullet wound to his side. Marano was airlifted to Penn Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia.

Marano, who is an off-duty West Norriton Township Police Officer, was in his personal vehicle and stopped at E Airy and DeKalb Street. While stopped Marano observed a black male, later identified as Otis Kendrick, 18 years old, arguing with a black female. Marano became engaged in an argument with Kendrick and during the argument, Kendrick punched the side of Marano’s vehicle. Marano exited his vehicle and confronted Kendrick, at which time, Kendrick brandished a handgun and shot Marano one time in the side. After being shot Marano was able to disarm Kendrick, and Kendrick fled on foot. After a brief foot pursuit, Kendrick was taken into custody by officers from the Bridgeport Police Department.

Marano was not armed at the time of this incident. Kendrick is currently in custody and the investigation is continuing.
