Frank Maley a Norristown resident was arrested and charged with 4 local bank robberies in East Norriton, Whitpain, and Lower Gwynedd according to a press release issued by Montgomery County District Attorney's office.

NORRISTOWN, Pa. (Nov. 12, 2019) —Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin R. Steele, East Norriton Township Police Chief Brandon Pasquale, Whitpain Township Police Chief Kenneth Lawson, Lower Gwynedd Township Police Chief Paul D. Kenny and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Bucks/Montgomery Safe Streets Taskforce-Fort Washington Resident Agency announce the arrest of Frank Maley, 53, of Norristown, for four bank robberies in Montgomery County in less than a month’s time, taking place between Sept. 14 and Oct. 12, 2019.
The bank robberies involved are:
• BB&T Bank, 451 West Johnson Highway, East Norriton Township, on Sept. 14, 2019;
• Key Bank, 1017 N. Bethlehem Pike, Lower Gwynedd Township, on Sept. 17, 2019;
• Key Bank, 450 E. Germantown Pike, East Norriton Township, on Sept. 30, 2019;
• Bryn Mawr Trust (BMT) bank, 599 Skippack Pike, Whitpain Township, on Oct. 12, 2019.
The investigation into these bank robberies was a multi-agency effort involving the Montgomery County Detective Bureau’s Violent Crime Unit; police from East Norriton, Lower Gwynedd and Whitpain Townships; and the FBI. The investigation involved the use of visual and electronic surveillance, video forensics, interviews, information from a concerned citizen and analysis of call detail records. The evidence led law enforcement to identify similarities among these robberies as well as a historical bank robbery at the same location in East Norriton in 2010, which led to the identification of Maley as a subject.
Law enforcement connected Maley to the bank robberies in a number of ways, including his maroon 1999 Ford F-150 pick-up truck, which has damage to the front right bumper. Witnesses describe this truck as being in the vicinity of these bank robberies, as well as outside of a bank on a different occasion where a concerned citizen engaged the driver and took photos of the truck before the driver left the scene. In addition, video surveillance and eyewitness accounts revealed that the bank robber walked in a distinctive manner that matches Maley’s gait, and although the bank robber attempted to conceal his facial features with a ski mask and other materials, physical characteristics and distinctive clothing also identified Maley as the perpetrator of the bank robberies.
“The arrest of Maley was the result of help from a concerned citizen, who may have foiled an attempted bank robbery, as well as a good, multi-jurisdictional investigation by law enforcement, including the FBI,” said Steele. “We are thankful for the help of the concerned citizen as well as multiple eyewitnesses who helped in this investigation. Montgomery County residents know that sharing what they see and observe with law enforcement is key in keeping our communities safe and getting criminals off the street.”
The defendant was arrested on Oct. 29, 2019, for an outstanding detainer and has been at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility since. Maley was arraigned today on charges of Robbery: Fear of Serious Bodily Injury (F-1) and lesser included charges in front of Magisterial District Judge Marc Alfarano, who set bail at $250,000. The defendant remains in MCCF. A preliminary hearing was set for November 21, 2019, at 10:15 a.m. in front of Judge Alfarano.
Assistant District Attorneys Scott Frank Frame and Tanner Beck will prosecute the case.
